John's Jaunty Jargon

It figures that we have ethernet available in the rooms at the dorm, but the person's room who is most addicted to the net doesn't work. So I ended up buying a 6 hour block for the next 2 weeks at the internet cafe down the road.

I ended up going to shoot for my project alone 'cause my partner was asleep. I'm shooting a documentary about an Umbrella shop that has been in business for a really long time. I talked to the guy and he said that I could shoot in the store as long as I got a letter from Darcy saying that I really needed this for an education related project. Then I ran into some of the other kids from my group so then we just ran around the city taking shots all afternoon.

We went to the Victoria & Albert museum to take a photo gallery tour of some of the very first photos. They were pretty amazing. They actually used metal and glass before negatives! And it was impossible to make copies of the same photo like you can using a negative. I think one of the photos that we saw was one of only 3 in the world or something like that...

Last night we ended up trying to take a little jaunt after dinner down to Westminster to try and see the London eye and big Ben at night. Because of the tube strike that is going on we ended up getting really lost, but found some cool parts of town (Charring Cross Lane) were all of the theatres and clubs are. We did end up getting to big Ben and the eye, but it wasn't until about 11pm. Its sooooo cool in that area- walking down the river walk at night is amazing. I'll have to post some more night shots sometime when I can use someone's ethernet that does work.

Today we have a speaker coming into the dowm and a double decker bus tour of the city after that. I'll report on those later.

Well, I'm here. The trip actually went by fast, but the train ride into the city (London) was a little confusing. I think I've defeated the jet lag problems already- didn't go to bed until 11pm last night and slept like a baby.

So far all we've been doing is walking around the city. Saw some of the more popular sites (big ben, london eye, etc)- most of the students went out to a pub last night. We had a grand old time and had a chance to exhibit our foreignness. lol.

Ta Ta for now.

P.S. The computer keyboards are waaaay different here, I'm sitting in an internet cafe down the road a bit from the dorm. Time to find some wireless for the powerbook...

This is a test. I'm trying to get this all setup before I leave for Europe so I know that I can update from over there.
